Skyrim & Resident Evil 7 Are Two Of PSVR’s Most Played Games

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Resident Evil 7 count among the most played titles on PlayStation VR, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary.

Sony has revealed that Resident Evil 7  and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim count as two of the most played games on PSVR, which is currently celebrating its fifth anniversary. While players can enjoy Skyrim’s immersive VR experience on PSVR and PC headsets, Resident Evil 7’s VR outing remains exclusive to the Sony-branded device.

PlayStation VR hit store shelves exactly five years ago today on October 13, with RIGS, Job Simulator, Batman: Arkham VR, and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood bolstering the launch lineup. Several other noteworthy experiences have graced the platform in the years since then, including the likes of first-person shooter Blood & Truth, adventure game Moss, and the FromSoftware-developed Déraciné. Some games remain atop the VR system’s fan-favorite list, however, offering the go-to experiences that players immediately explore upon unboxing their PSVR. Unsurprisingly, two of the games are from long-running franchises.

To celebrate the milestone, Sony unleashed new stats about games played on the platform. Of the five most played titles globally, measured by playtime hours, Resident Evil 7 and Skyrim count among the most notable. The online title Rec Room also rounds out the list, alongside the ever-popular rhythm game Beat Saber and the PlayStation VR Worlds compilation. Sony shared the news in a PlayStation Blog post, which also teased that PS Plus subscribers will receive three free VR experiences starting in November. (As of writing, the freebies have not been named.)

PSVR most played games 5th anniversary

It’s worth noting that this list simply logs games PSVR users have played the most, according to playtime hours. Thus, these details offer no information with regards to sales numbers and the like. The data still warrants a closer look, however. Have players really spent an exorbitant amount of time in RE7’s eerie VR mode, roaming around dark and horrifying environments with killers and monsters lurking about? Apparently so.

Sony has invested heavily in virtual reality in the last few years; the company plans on doubling down, too. Earlier this year, PlayStation shared cursory details about its next-gen PSVR headset, complete with a first look at the all-new controllers replacing Move. Concrete information presently remains scarce, but rumors suggest Sony’s next VR device will boast near-4K resolution, an OLED display, and foveated rendering.
